Hey friends! I thought, with the seemingly ever increasing chaos and anxiety that we are being bombarded with in recent days that I would take a few moments and share with you a little love in the form of a few things that bring me joy.
That’s right, it’s been long overdue but I want to give you guys a few recommendations for some things that I love that I think YOU will love too. Hopefully bringing some sunshine and brightness, some calm, and some joy to your life. Even if just for a moment!
So let’s get to it.
First up I want to recommend a book series, and in particular one book out of that series. However if you haven’t read the whole series you’ll want to start with the first one and work your way through, they are amazing!
Right now though, I’m talking about the fantastic 2nd book in the “Heritage of Shannara” series from Terry Brooks, called “The Druid of Shannara”. This book, released in Jan. 1992, features heavily the story of the druid to be, Walker Boh. But the story was on my mind a lot today because of a passage in which the King of the Silver River, an ancient and very powerful being from better days gone by, is watching the darkness sicken and poison the land. Because of this he creates a creature to help our heroes battle the sickness of the spreading Shadowen, called Quickening, and sends her out into the world to be a beacon of hope and healing.
If you want to hear some more thoughts on it you can find a short IGTV video I put together with it HERE (while you’re there I’d love it if you hit follow on my account @aicstories to join the storytelling podcast fun) or you can read the full passage on the Penguin Randomhouse Website HERE. If you are looking for a good old fashioned fantasy story of hope, of good facing evil, and of learning to accept and move forward, then I can’t recommend “The Druid of Shannara” enough.
Second I want to talk about some good old fashioned fun. Remember the joy you felt as a kid when you’d get an awesome new sticker? I know some of you may be rolling your eyes right now but truth be told, getting stickers as an adult is pretty damn awesome as well.
How do I know this? Well with the onset of Covid last Spring I was introduced to a fantastic group of makers and found out quickly that doing Sticker Swaps was a pretty common practice between all of these different creators! So I said “Hey, I have a podcast with a pretty awesome logo! I want in!” So I began the process of doing a little research on the best places to get stickers and after talking to a bunch of my maker friends the easy consensus was that I needed to check out a company called Sticker Mule.
So I sent them an order with my logo for a sample sale they had going and got THAT beauty back! I was hooked and so turned around and ordered some more!
A short time later they sent me an email, because as I would come to find out they are just awesome and love to give people every opportunity they can to check out all of their amazing varieties of stickers, and I couldn’t pass it up! So I got a small batch of these awesome HOLOGRAPHIC stickers! WHAT?! So cool!
Now look, I don’t want this to sound like just some kind of ad for Sticker Mule, but seriously, you need to join the fun and get some of your own stickers made!
If you do, shoot me a message, I’d love to do a sticker swap with you and with all the new projects coming up over at AIC Stories, I’ve got some new designs to finalize and order! But, and this is the coolest thing, Sticker Mule has become my go to sticker company that I recommend to EVERYONE that is looking to get stickers because they not only make kick ass stickers, but all sorts of other items for helping to promote your brand or share your art! From labels and magnets to buttons and packaging and even a really tasty hot sauce they call Mule Sauce!
So for real guys, join the sticker fun and head over to Sticker Mule and make yourself some stickers. If you want to try them AND get $10 off your order then just click the button below!
AND don’t forget, if you have any interest in swapping stickers, shoot me a message either on social media @aicstories or via the contact form above and we’ll make it happen! I LOVE getting stickers in the mail!
One last thing to recommend you check out because as you know I’m a storytelling fanatic and so I want to recommend a re-watch of a classic film from 1994.
It was pointed out to me recently that the title character of this film may have been the BEST version of Batman’s arch-nemesis, The Joker, that we ever had on film prior to Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix took on the mantle in later years.
No, this isn’t a Batman film.
It’s the dark action drama starring Brandon Lee, The Crow.
I heard the guys over at the 70mm Podcast talk about this film recently and it lit a fire under me to give this a re-watch(which is the plan for tonight or tomorrow!). I LOVED this film when it came out and watched it countless times in the years after it was released.
But, it’s been a long time since I’ve visited and hearing their discussion about how the modern versions of The Joker seem to pull SO MUCH from Brandon Lee’s performance, I just HAVE to check it out.
In case you’ve forgotten, here is the original trailer from Miramax.
If you decide to give it a rewatch reach out to @aicstories on social media, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it! I’ll likely share mine either in an IG video, future blog post here, or some Twitter/FB/IG threads!
One bonus for you real quick. If you haven’t caught up with the latest stories over on Faded Words, I’d love it if you subscribed to the “AIC Stories” feed and caught all the current episodes PLUS would be set up to get the NEW PROJECTS coming soon!
Here’s a quick little sample from the latest episode, “A Kidnapped Santa Claus by L. Frank Baum”.
Which is YOUR favorite voice?
I hope you guys enjoy my recommendations, my Friday Love, and have a fantastic weekend!
If you check out The Druid of Shannara by Terry Brooks and want to chat about it, reach out, same goes if you check out the awesome folks over at Sticker Mule, let’s swap stickers!
And finally, if you decide to give The Crow a watch, let’s talk!
Until next time friends, have a great weekend and try to find your hope, optimism, and love. We all could use a bit more of that right now.
